What to expect

What to Expect at Your Appointment

First, we’ll ask about your medical history — any past injuries, surgeries, medications, or trauma. This helps us understand your overall health and how it might relate to the problem you’re experiencing. Don’t worry, all the information you share with us is completely confidential.

Next, we’ll perform a physical examination and any necessary tests to understand what’s causing your symptoms. Once we have a diagnosis, we’ll explain your treatment options and can often start treatment straight away.

Your Privacy Matters

Everything you tell us stays confidential. Your records and contact details are securely stored on password-protected devices. If we ever need to contact your GP or refer you for further tests, we will always ask your permission first.

If you feel more comfortable, you are welcome to request a chaperone to be present during any part of your appointment. This is entirely your choice and can help you feel supported and at ease throughout your consultation and examination.

Physical Examination

To check your problem properly, we’ll examine the affected area and related parts of your body. It’s best to wear a t-shirt and comfortable shorts or trousers to your appointment. You’ll be asked to perform simple movements so we can assess your mobility. If needed, we’ll explain and carry out further tests, such as neurological testing.

Your Treatment

Osteopathic treatment uses gentle techniques on your muscles, ligaments, and joints to improve how they work and reduce pain. Each treatment is tailored just for you to help you feel better as quickly as possible.

Advice for You

At the end of your session, we’ll give you tips on how to care for yourself at home. As you improve, we’ll provide exercises and advice to help prevent the problem from coming back — for example, back care exercises.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-up sessions last about 40 minutes. We’ll check how you’re doing, do another examination, and continue treatment as needed. Please wear your shorts and t-shirt again.

Most acute (short-term) problems improve in 2–4 sessions. Chronic (longer-term) issues might need 8–10 treatments over a few months. Our goal is to help you heal and get back to enjoying life fully.
